This work was continued by Kedu Resident named Hartman in 1835. In addition to cleaning activities, he also conducted research in particular towards the top of the stupa of Borobudur temple, but unfortunately this research report was never published. Wilsen made documentation in the form of building image and temple reliefs for 4 years since 1849, while the photo document created in 1873 by Van Kinsbergen. According to the legend, the Borobudur Temple was founded by architect Gunadharma. But Casparis opinion based on interpretation of the inscription framed in 824 AD and the inscriptions of Sri Kahulunan 842 AD, the founder of the Borobudur Temple is Smaratungga who ruled in 782-812 AD during the Syailendra dynasty. Borobudur was built to glorify Buddha.
Borobudur also has become the main residence of Serlingpa, a Great Guru who inheritance the training of Bodhicitta which are very precious to His Holiness Atisha - India Great Guru who was very meritorious in spreading the teachings of Bodhicitta at Tibet. Borobudur is a sacred and historic place for Buddhists community.
Since Borobudur Temple had been built, it has been countless beings, Arahat and Bodhisattva who made great aspiration and determination of the sacred in the great mandala of Borobudur. Therefore, if we did the same aspiration at Borobudur, the good karma that we do must get gather of the good result.
As if a drop of water pouring into the ocean of virtue which consisted of accumulation prayers from all energy of virtue on this universe, so that our virtues will combine become one with the ocean of virtue in which our virtues will not dry out or forgotten over time. Thus the dedication of virtue performed with pure motivation, will remain there until the achievement of perfect enlightenment which is Buddha-nature.
The other benefit which is gained from following the Kagyu Monlam Chenmo at Borobudur is because the shaped of Borobudur is look like a mandala from the sky. Mandala serves strengthen, improve and multiply all offerings into an area of the universe and endless form. Borobudur temple is the only form of the largest mandala in the world; it is a very precious gift when someone can do great aspiration puja at mandala Borobudur.
Therefore we invite all peoples to participate in a series of events at this Great Aspirations Puja. By attending, supporting, and being happy for Kagyu Monlam to held, will result an accumulation of virtues and benefits that are not limited and can be feel directly in this life and in many countless future life. The main purpose of Monlam is to attain Buddhahood which begins by Great Aspirations with the pure Bodhichitta motivation for the happiness of all beings.
